Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Wavian NATO jerry cans, spouts, holders, and ordering.
Can I store water in a Wavian fuel can?
No. Wavian fuel cans have an internal lining designed specifically for fuel storage — it will react with water and is not safe for drinking water. If you need to store water, Wavian makes dedicated water cans built for exactly that purpose.
Is a safety spout included?
Yes. Every Wavian fuel can ships with a CARB-approved safety spout. Combined with the can's internal breather pipe, it delivers a fast, smooth, glug-free pour with automatic shut-off.
What do the can colors mean?
Color coding follows the standard fuel-container convention: red for gasoline, yellow for diesel, and blue for kerosene. Olive drab and black are popular for overland and military-style builds — the cans themselves are identical inside.
What sizes are available?
Two sizes: the classic 20 liter (5.3 gallon) can and the compact 10 liter (2.6 gallon) can. Both are built to the same NATO specification from 0.9mm cold-rolled steel.
Do you offer mounting holders?
Yes. We stock powder-coated steel holders in top-loading and front-loading styles, sized for both 10L and 20L cans — made for trucks, trailers, overland rigs, and wall mounting.
Are holders included with the cans?
No — holders are sold separately. Product photos showing cans in holders are for demonstration only.
Do you sell replacement parts?
Yes. We stock replacement lids (with attachment and locking pins), gaskets, pins, and spouts — every wear part, always available.
How does shipping work?
Orders ship from our warehouse in Chico, California, and are dispatched within one business day. Domestic shipping is a flat $8.00, and free on orders of $150.00 and up, with 3–5 business day delivery. New, empty fuel cans are not classified as hazardous materials, so they ship standard ground with no hazmat surcharges.
Where are Wavian cans made?
The fuel cans, spouts, holders and replacement parts are all made in Latvia. The 22L water can is the exception — it is made in Australia from food-grade resin. Full breakdown by product on where Wavian cans are made.
Who is behind Wavian USA?
Wavian USA is a brand operated by Swiss-Link, Inc., a military surplus and preparedness distributor in Chico, California. Support is handled by the Swiss-Link team at customerservice@swisslink.com.
Do you sell wholesale?
Yes — Wavian cans are available by the case and by the pallet for dealers and resellers. Submit a dealer inquiry at swisslinkwholesale.com and our wholesale team will get you set up.
Is it spelled Wavian, Waivian, or Waivan?
Wavian — W-a-v-i-a-n. The name gets typed plenty of other ways, and Waivian, Waivan, Wavien, Wavain and Wavion all refer to the same cans. Outside the US you may see the product called a Kanister in German or канистра in Russian; both simply mean jerry can. However you spelled it, this is the right place: Wavian is the original NATO-pattern steel jerry can, and we are the exclusive authorized distributor for Wavian in North America.
